Green Party Councillor defects to Labour

Following the news that a recently-elected Castle Ward Green Councillor has decided to join the Labour Party, Colchester Council is now led by a Coalition of 15 Lib-Dem and 15 Labour Councillors.

Cllr Darius Laws, Leader of the Conservative Opposition which is the largest Group on the Council, said:  "It would be reasonable for Cllr Nissen to offer herself up in a by-election to let residents of Castle Ward decide who they want to represent them in the Town Hall. 

This could happen in May when there are other elections so we don't burden Colchester taxpayers with the cost of an earlier by-election."

So far this civic year, one Castle Ward Councillor has left the Greens to sit as an independent, and now another Castle Ward Green Councillor defects to Labour.
