Conservative Council Motion demands value-for-money for residents paying maintenance fees on private estates

Getting what people pay for is at the heart of the latest campaign by Colchester Conservatives who have highlighted how some private maintenance companies are not clearing dog bins, cutting grass, and emptying rubbish bins on private estates.

Residents of some areas of the city have been complaining how they are not getting what they pay for in fees for maintenance of private estates, which is on top of what they pay in Council Tax bills.

Colchester Conservative Councillors put forward a motion at the City Council Meeting on July 17 condemning this, and asking that tighter action be taken against those private estate management companies that fail to deliver the services they are being paid for.

Conservatives also want developers, who have not fulfilled their responsibilities to have roads and street lamps brought up to standard for adoption, should not be given planning permission to build further properties until they fulfil their existing obligations to new residents.

Leader of the Colchester Conservative Councillors, Cllr Paul Dundas, said “this motion is about standing-up for people and especially those who are paying huge amounts of money for estate maintenance services they are not receiving, and then paying full council tax on top, when developers are still responsible for roads and street lamps. We believe that such companies are held to account and face financial penalty of they fail to do their job.”
